"But thought in reality spaces itself out into the world. It informs the imaginary of peoples, their varied poetics, which it then transforms, meaning, in them its risk becomes realized."
Edouard Glissant, "Imaginary"

Poetics of Relation, 1997

The group exhibition Exercise in Unlocking Heteronormativity, part I is the first installment in a two-part display, presented by Q(WE)R — International Queer Culture Festival.

The exhibition showcases works by the artists Simone Fukayuki, Fuyuhiko Takata, Mala Badi, and Shohei Miyachi, exploring a variety of means to negotiate issues relating to social minorities, gender, and sexual identity.

Presenting works in collage, photography, video, and text, viewers are invited to delve into the personal and intimate worlds of the artists as means to reflect and engage through artmaking their notions of queerness—examining contemplation and joy.

Exercise in Unlocking Heteronormativity, part II will be presented 26 April~6 May at UltraSuperNew Gallery in Harajuku.
