Akane Nakamura is a visual artist living in Tokyo since 2017. She originates from New Zealand, where she graduated from art school with a Fine Arts degree. Her current art practice focuses predominantly on abstract paintings, working with acrylic and gouache. 

Akane’s showcase at TRUNK (HOTEL), A Series of Abstract Works, is a collection of paintings created in 2020. 

Her painting style alternates between fluid brushstrokes and graphic shapes layered upon one another to create a spontaneous, yet controlled balance.  

Techniques such as stencilling, screen printing and monotyping, has been used to create variations in shape and texture.  

She has aimed to create works which are optimistic in energy and visually vibrant, influenced by Japan’s eclectic landscape.
